Middle School English and Reading

Our Middle School Program

The middle school English curriculum bridges students’ understandings between elementary school ELA and the high school English program.  Following a reading and writing workshop model, the students select their own independent reading books, analyze anchor texts for styles, techniques, and strategies, and examine whole-class books that are read.  Students also write personal memoirs, biographical memoirs, argumentative speeches/essays, informational texts, and original stories.  Throughout the year, classroom teachers work with the students to provide feedback through conferencing, small-group workshops, and whole-class discussions.  The goal of middle school English instruction  is to foster a love of learning while also inspiring our students to become thoughtful thinkers and communicators.
