WELCOME TO PHYSICAL EDUCATION
The goals of the middle school physical education curriculum are for students to gain the necessary knowledge and skills to establish and maintain personal fitness, perform basic motor and manipulative skills in a variety of activities, and develop the ability to create and maintain a safe and healthy environment.
The middle school curriculum focuses on the acquisition and refinement of sport specific motor skills, fundamental strategic play, decision making principles, as well as basic knowledge of rules and appropriate behavior through a variety of modified game-like activities and situations. There is also an underlying emphasis on the understanding of health-related and skill-related fitness components along with principles of exercise and health risk factors. Finally, the curriculum pays specific attention to the comprehension of personal and social responsibility concepts including safety, character, civility and citizenship related to sports and physical activities.
