Mission Statement

The mission of Family And Consumer Sciences is to prepare individuals to be competent, confident and caring in managing their personal, family and work lives.

FACS programs are caring, active, relevant and diverse. They focus on improving the quality of life for individuals and families. They provide education and training for related careers.

Student Outcomes

Students will possess skills for living and personal resource management in the areas of family and human development; early childhood education; nutrition and food preparation; clothing, housing, the environment; consumerism; and financial management.
Students will understand the relationship of their interests, abilities and aptitudes to career choices and explore tentative career options.
Students will demonstrate individual and collaborative leadership skills essential for accomplishing personal and group goals.
Students will demonstrate knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary for providing care to others and for understanding parenting skills and responsibilities.
Students will identify with the multiple roles of all family members and recognize the many different family structures.
Students will analyze and weigh alternatives when setting realistic personal and career goals.
Students will develop effective interpersonal relationships in the classroom.
Students will be stimulated to pursue life-long learning opportunities using skills developed in Family & Consumer Sciences.
